I visited Amangiri Resort and Spa at Lake Powell, an Amanresort property, with a friend for lunch and a tour during a slow moving winter storm. As it moved East, the storm became one of the worst to hit the Washington, D.C. area in many years . From the steam rising up off the pool to the snow covered buttes the whole area appeared magical in white and red. There is something about snow in the high, wind-blown deserts of Southern Utah that leads to the ethereal.
Arrival to Amangiri is accomplished via Larkspur Drive, a winding dirt and gravel road which follows closely along several towering red rock spires, before dropping down in to the valley, ending at the Pavilion.
Lunch was a dream, prepared by Chef Matt at the open kitchen on the wood-fired oven. Our tour was provided by the Assistant General Manager, Erica, and encompassed the pavilion, private dining room, wine cellar, guest suites and the world class spa.

The Pavilion is the center of activity at Amangiri with three living rooms each centered around a fire place. The library, in the middle of the pavilion, offers couches, chairs and plenty of reading material. The dining room over looks the pool or the open kitchen while the private dining room seats up to 10 and can be secluded from the rest of the pavilion. The wine cellar has ceiling to floor cabinets stocked with fine and exotic wines as well as independent winery selections.
The Amangiri Pool is a masterpiece of design. Set down in a sunken courtyard, surrounded by rock formations, buttes and the pavilion, it is breathtaking. Even during the winter months the pool is a center of attraction as it is heated to 86 degrees.
Amangiri has 34 suites including 13 Mesa View Suites, 14 Desert View Suites, one Terrace Suite, two Pool Suites, The Girijaala Suite, and The Amangiri Suite. Each suite provides luxurious accommodations and has been designed to make the most of the stunning views and quiet solitude.
The Aman Spa at Amangiri is 25,000 square feet of private treatment rooms, water pavilions, saunas, cold plunge pools, beauty salons, and a fitness center. Spa packages are available for 3 or 7 nights and include individualized wellness programs wrapped with the unique ability to hike and explore one of the world’s most beautiful and unusual areas.
The Yoga room really caught my attention, with bamboo floors and a breath taking scene out of the main windows, it is truly inviting.
The Amangiri restaurant is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner by calling (435) 675-3999 to make a reservation.
The Villas at Amangiri are now underway. Twenty-eight private residences will be located on the 600 acre Amangiri site offering world class design and exclusive privacy. For more information Contact Me
