What a beautiful day for The Big Water Dinosaur Festival it turned out to be! There are so many people to thank for making this happen amidst the Federal Government Shutdown. Our planning committee is so thankful for all of the help to make this first year a success.

Friday was our kick off event which was a lecture from keynote speaker Dr. Joseph Sertich, PhD Curator of Vertebrate Paleontology at the Denver Museum of Nature and Science. The kids and adults enjoyed the presentation which covered paleontology from Africa to America!
Saturday was a BLAST and by the time I arrived at the festival to help with the set up there were already people milling around. It got much busier from there. The Grand Staircase Escalante Partners played a huge part of making the day a success with displays of their own and some that were borrowed, albeit last minute, from the Paleo Lab of the Monument. Four large dinosaur heads were the hit of the day! The John Wesley Powell Museum folks, including members of their board of directors, stepped up and covered not only for them but for other agencies who were shut down.
Kids had a great time in the craft are participating in an art contest and making large dinosaur masks. Funtime Inflatables had kids not only in the bounce houses but on the climbing wall. Cool art of many different varieties for sale from spray paint art to leather crafts, photography, and homemade soaps and much more.
Dance with the Dinosaur had kids and adults dancing with our large, green, dinosaur to the sounds of the band Sage (I am a guitarist and vocalists in Sage)
We are so looking forward to next year and tentatively have set September 19 – 21, 2014, for the event.
